Sustainable fashion- it says, "Buy less, choose well and make it last".
T he joy of dressing is an art and I believe that we should dress everyday as it’s the best day ever but dressing up is not just the matter of clothes; the way we feel, the one we are, the mind we possess, the task we do and the clothes we wear are all combined in one to make it “Dressing up” therefore, it is good to say that, “Clothes means nothing until someone lives in them”. With the advancement of time and technology, dressing up has emerged solely as buying new clothes and never repeating them which is becoming a problem to the ecosystem of the Earth and the solution to this problem is one- Sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion talks about slowing down the fashion seasons and increasing the longevity of our clothes while popularizing the saying- Don’t dress to kill, dress to survive.

P roduction of the eco-friendly threads is not the only step towards the sustainable fashion; we have to play our part too in which cutting down the waste is most important that can be successfully achieved by decreasing the demand of clothes. The low demand will lead to the lower production which will bring a downfall in waste excreted by the textile mills and also reduce the need of raw material. Our first step towards it can be; “Repeating our clothes”. Gone are the days when we used to have two or three party dresses which were happily repeated until we stop fitting into them nowadays repeating a dress has become an unobvious question no matter how comfortable we were in that dress or how special we felt wearing that, keeping aside the exchange of dresses between siblings. I am sure everyone out there starts wondering about; "what to wear?" when a party invitation come to our way and later comes the enjoyment factor and meeting friends and family. Now we buy clothes almost in every month, they have become our staples in terms of purchasing whereas consumption is a challenge for the storage space in our house.
“Everything that contains our energy should be in constant movement.
The clothes you bought are part of you and represent those special times
When you left the house wanting to splash out a little because you were
happy, times when you’d been hurt and wanted to make yourself feel
better or times when you thought you should change your life.
Clothes always transform emotion into matter.”
Paulo Coelho.
M ost recently, Ivanka Trump visited to India, wearing a repeated dress and bearing the torch to sustainable fashion. Emma Watson, Jessica Alba, Katrina Kaif, Tapsee Pannu are few celebrity names who have also joined the bandwagon of the sustainable fashion and gave a message that no matter how well off you are repeating clothes is nothing bad, in fact it should be chosen willfully where the conservation of mother Earth is in question. We too can very easily go for it, all we have to do is-
1. Start wearing all our clothes rather keeping them dumped in the wardrobe.
2. Drop down the frequency of buying the new clothes and often repeat the ones we already have.
3. Giving away: The clothes we don’t wear should fill up the empty spaces of someone needy.
4. Choose wisely: Go for the clothes which are made of eco-friendly material and casting no harm to the earth.
5. Sharing and exchanging: We should share our clothes with one another to never be bored off same clothes.

W e need to come out of the chase of always looking new and realise the most obvious function of clothing which is to protect the wearer from elements like- the sunburn, the wind damage, the cold and rain and obviously save us from embarrassment. Looking presentable is most obvious thing fo a person but it does not always mean; wearing a new dress. With small changes and corrections in dresses, shuffling with accessories and mix and match formula we can come up with wonderful looks that will be new and also do not harm the earth and ecosystem.
